You may have noticed a new feature in Microsoft Outlook for Windows. When you click the link in an email the web page is opened in the Edge browser. This is not dependent on your choice you have made regarding your default browser. Even if you have chosen Chrome or Firefox in Windows settings you will still be taken to Edge with a copy of your email on the right hand side of the browser window.
To return to the behavior of having email links open in your default browser, the setting in Windows will not affect this behavior. Instead you need to make a change in Outlook. Go to File in the menu bar and choose Options on the left. Go to Advanced in the Outlook Options window. Scroll down to file and browser preferences. Change the Open hyperlinks from Outlook in: option. You can choose Edge or Windows default.
